Young People's Chorus of New York City, Francisco J. Núñez, Founder/Artistic Director

Anima – Young Singers of Greater Chicago

The internationally recognized ANIMA (formerly the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus) now in its 45th season, is dedicated to shaping young lives through extraordinary choral experiences, outstanding music education, serving the community through song, and touring nationally and internationally.  The Chorus' five ensembles serve approximately 250 children from over 40 different Chicago communities, with outreach programs reaching over 1000 additional children annually.  The Chorus' new name comes from the Latin word meaning breath, life, soul, spirit.

The Chorus performs frequently with Chicago's major musical organizations under many of the world's most eminent conductors.  In June of 2009, ANIMA was the first youth chorus to receive the Dale Warland Commissioning Award from Chorus America for an upcoming collaboration with eighth blackbird.  Other awards include the 2008 Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence from Chorus America, the ASCAP Award for adventurous programming in 2001, and the United States Library of Congress' Local Legacies Award in 2000.  Recent highlights include performances of a major new commission from composer Daniel Brewbaker, Living the Divine, with guest artists Susanne Mentzer, mezzo soprano, and Cynthia Yeh, principal percussion, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, performances of Berlioz' Damnation of Faust with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and an upcoming concert tour in June of 2010 to Spain and Morocco.
