Freddie Rosario

"The first gift YPC gave me wasn't travel or performances. It was belonging. They told me, 'You belong here. Come in. Stay.'"

My name is Freddie Rosario. I'm 17 years old, and I've been singing with Young People's Chorus for four years. This spring, I'm graduating from high school—something that a few years ago I never imagined would be possible.

A YPC conductor who was teaching at my school heard me sing and told me I had a voice worth developing. He encouraged me to audition, and I got in. Looking back, that audition changed my life.

I came into YPC with all of my energy, my restlessness, and challenges I was still figuring out. But nobody told me I was too much. Nobody threatened to kick me out. Instead, YPC welcomed me exactly as I was. The first gift YPC gave me wasn't travel or performances—it was belonging. They told me, "You belong here. Come in. Stay."

More than I ever imagined. I've performed at Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center. I've appeared on television. I got on a plane for the first time and traveled to South Korea to represent New York City at the World Choir Games. Since then, I've traveled to New Zealand, China, Japan, and Spain. Through YPC, I've seen a world much bigger than the neighborhood where I grew up.

YPC has helped me dream bigger. Today, I want to go to college. I want to be a singer, an actor, and maybe even a teacher someday. They've supported me through audition boot camps, private voice lessons, dance rehearsals, monologue coaching, college applications, essays—everything. And they've done it all at no cost to me or my family.

YPC changed the direction of my life. They didn't just teach me music—they gave me confidence, opportunities, and a place where I belonged. Because of YPC, I can imagine a future that once felt impossible. And there are hundreds of kids like me who need that same opportunity. That's why support for YPC matters.
