National Sawdust
National Sawdust begins the season with a spotlight on seven female composers who have and are bringing their distinctive voices to the music of our time: Clara Schumann, Emma O’Halloran, Mary Lou Williams, Missy Mazzoli, Meredith Monk, Paola Prestini, and this year’s Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Reid. On opening night, YPC, led by Francisco J. Núñez, will reprise Ellen Reid’s So Much on My Soul. This piece is a YPC commission that includes a text inspired by personal stories from several YPC chorus members.

Digital Release Available Now
This past January, YPC, directed by Francisco J. Núñez, performed in the world premiere of Julia Wolfe’s Fire in my mouth with the New York Philharmonic and Music Director Jaap van Zweden, and also featuring The Crossing. Decca Gold has just released the recording of this performance in digital format, and will be available in physical formats on October 4. Don’t miss what NPR Classical has called “one of the best albums of 2019.”

SECOND Floor NYC
WIT serves the young women and alumnae of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City by encouraging mentoring relationships with accomplished women from various professions (what we call WIT Pros) as part of YPC’s College Bound Program. This year’s conference theme is Finding Your Voice and will include networking opportunities, a panel discussion, and a formal lunch.
2019 speakers are Mary Giuliani, celebrity chef and author and Erin Stanton, author and non-profit founder.

September has been an incredibly exciting month so far, with a whirlwind of high-profile performances across the city. First stop was the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where YPC accompanied a parade of models displaying Michael Kors designs during New York Fashion Week. The following evening, YPC performed at the Save the Children Centennial Gala honoring Tommy Hilfiger and Camila Cabello. Then, at the Samsung Gives Charity Gala, YPC stopped the show with its own set, and later, in performances with Wyclef Jean and DJ Irie.
