November 3, 2024 | United Palace
Screening at 5:00pm
We were excited to present a collaborative performance with the Washington Heights Community Choir at the screening of Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind at the historic United Palace on Sunday, November 3. The event was part of Movies at the Palace: Season of Friendship, a film series bringing people together through beloved films and live performances.
Before the screening, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City and the Washington Heights Community Choir performed a new vocal interpretation of the film’s iconic “conversation” between humans and aliens. Blending voices of different races, ages, and backgrounds, the performance highlighted the series’ message: the power of connection and the beauty of our differences.
The film, rated PG, ran for 2 hours and 18 minutes on DCP. The theme of friendship reflected what we most needed in 2024.
