NATIONALSAWDUST+ PRESENTS A CRISIS OF RESPONSIBILITY: EXCERPTS FROM “THE SHELL TRIAL”

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Reid, along with librettist Roxie Perkins, will showcase insights and excerpts from their new opera, The Shell Trial, at a special NationalSawdust+ program. The opera, commissioned by Dutch National Opera, delves into climate devastation through a court case where environmentalists sued Shell Oil. The Young People’s Chorus of New York City, led by Francisco Nuñez, will perform arias representing diverse perspectives, including The Climate Refugee and The CEO. This thought-provoking evening will feature climate activist Saad Amer and soprano Shabnam Abedi, among others. The event, part of NS+’s For Nature series, explores the intersection of nature and humanity, addressing collective responsibility in halting climate change.
